As I sit down to write this, it is really a message to myself as much as anyone else. This year in particular seems to have me in a whirlwind of activity. I find it harder and harder to keep track of my calendar and the days continue to grow fuller and fuller. I remember just a few short years ago not understanding how someone could completely forget something – well, now I know!
There’s a movie that came out when I was younger that told a story about a mom who was trying to juggle her job, her son, and her household responsibilities – she said she was just trying to keep all of her balls up in the air and if one dropped, she would lose them all.
I certainly understand this feeling, but thankfully, I also understand that we are not at this alone – we have a God who loves us and wants to surround us with his peace. As the world celebrates the birth of Jesus this time each year, I am reminded of this verse about Mary:
Certainly, Mary understood better than anyone feeling overwhelmed and unprepared. Yet, she took the time to treasure this moment. She wanted to be able to reflect back on this time to help her through difficult days ahead.
As we all struggle to keep up with our families, traditions, and calendars, I hope we will encourage one another to treasure the story of Jesus. He alone can provide us with the peace and hope that will carry us through not only this season, but throughout the year.
My prayer is that our Southside family will feel Christ’s love, peace, and joy surrounding us and we can then be a light into our community.
