Promise with a Capital P

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

In my reading this morning, I read this verse and it really stuck out to me. Especially as a parent and minister to children, I love the way this verse speaks to the future. God has prepared for our children good works they can do. I love thinking about all the possibilities for our children of Southside to go out into this world and do good works through Christ.

When I see the teachers and helpers working with our children here at Southside I am so encouraged. I am privileged to be able to see how so many people from our church are able to plant the seeds of love from Jesus.

This past month, here are just a few of the ways I saw how children are being nurtured into Christ-like faith:

- Downstairs in our nurseries, I saw our amazing attendants and teachers loving babies and showing them how to pat the Bible and love God’s Word.

- From the two’s class, I saw the faces of the children light up when they saw Jane and Ladonna Anthony enter the classroom!

- In the four’s class, I saw Lori Walton playing a fun game to get all her class engaged to hear the Word of God!

- In the 2nd and 3rd grade class, I heard cheers erupt as Joan Smith led them in a Bible trivia game, and they won!

My list could go on and on and on! I would encourage us all to pray that as this seed is planted, that it will take deep roots into their hearts and God’s possibilities
will be known.

It reminds me of a song I learned at Church Camp years and years ago as a kid myself:

“I am a Promise. I am a Possibility. I am a Promise with a capital P. I am a great big bundle of Potentiality! I am a Promise to be anything God wants me to be!”
