David and Sandy Goin have lives that orbit around their priorities of devotion to their family, service to their Lord, and enriching lives through education.

David and Sandy met at church in Norman, Oklahoma and worked together in the bus ministry. They wed in 1982 and have spent their lives nurturing their beloved family which now includes five grandchildren ages 22 through 2. Their daughter is our own Jana McGilvray.

Wherever they have lived they have served the Lord’s church with vigor and passion. David served as an elder at the great Memorial Road congregation in Edmond for nine years before their recent move to Cowtown. David and Sandy particularly enjoyed working with the young couples of this congregation when he served as a shepherd. Sandy has always found both comfort and direction from Paul’s words in Philippians 4 about living a joyful Christian life by controlling one’s thinking and attitudes. The words of Proverbs 3:4-5 were instilled in David by his folks to trust fully in the Lord, not in one’s own intellect nor bravado.

Professionally, David was a teacher then an administrator. He became superintendent of schools in Edmond for sixteen years prior to retirement. He obtained an Ed.D from OU. Sandy raised the family, ran a medical office for 20 years, then worked at Oklahoma Christian for fifteen years in the Human Resources department. Their hobbies and interests are vast: travel, music, continuing education courses, yard work, reading, cooking, and cycling.

At Southside David and Sandy have already thrown themselves into the many ministries of the PEACE class. Additionally, David has found joy in mentoring 4th graders at DeZavala Elementary School through Academy 4 and teaching weekly anger management and life skills classes at the ABODE transitional home for men in west Fort Worth.

Two old classic hymns are favorites, and both serve as the anthem of their lives — “MAKE ME A SERVANT LORD” and “NONE OF SELF AND ALL OF THEE” proscribe a life of grower deeper into one’s discipleship. Hymns that aptly describe the life goals of David and Sandy Goin.
