It seems this time of year always causes me to look back and reflect. I think about years past as I put up Christmas ornaments and decorations. I like to collect ornaments on trips we take and so it is always such a joy to think about those special times as we put them on our tree. We also have certain traditions that we do each year and so it is fun to reminisce about the years prior as we participate together as a family. We also enjoy looking back at pictures of Christmas from years past and notice how much everyone has changed and laugh a lot!
This year we are certain to make new memories that don’t necessarily follow our “normal” traditions. And I should think this will be a Christmas we will never forget because it is so different. I’m sure years from now, we’ll all tell tales of Christmas 2020!
As we reflect this year, I encourage us to look back upon the good memories with thanksgiving in our hearts. I am reminded of Paul’s encouragement he received from Timothy in 1 Thessalonians 3:6-13:
“But Timothy has just now come to us from you and has brought good news about your faith and love. He has told us that you always have pleasant memories of us and that you long to see us, just as we also long to see you. Therefore, brothers and sisters, in all our distress and persecution we were encouraged about you because of your faith. For now we really live, since you are standing firm in the Lord. How can we thank God enough for you in return for all the joy we have in the presence of our God because of you? Night and day we pray most earnestly that we may see you again and supply what is lacking in your faith. Now may our God and Father himself and our Lord Jesus clear the way for us to come to you. May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you. May he strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones.”
This is my prayer for you, Church. Please know that I am thankful for you! Please know that I treasure looking back at our pleasant memories together and I pray that the Lord will make your love increase and overflow! And, I LOOK AHEAD to the day we are together again here on earth, but most importantly; I LOOK AHEAD to the day when Jesus comes and we are all together in His Holy presence!
