We are two weeks away from our Faithful to God’s Future Giving Day on Dec. 8. We announced in October the plan to raise $1.5 million dollars for the purposes of renovating and expanding our church facility. The money will help us renovate our Children’s Wing upstairs (including an elevator!). It will upgrade our kitchen and several bathrooms.
Also, it will expand our facility toward Hemphill St. about 4,500 square feet that will provide a multi-purpose room and a new home for our youth ministry. Thus far, the response has been positive and many prayers are going up for this effort. A couple of things that I wanted to remind you:
1. The Faithful to God’s Future giving will replace our Called to Light effort this year. As I have told several, in order for the church to be “called to light”; sometimes we need to “prepare for the call.” This effort will do just that. With the renovations and additions, we will be better prepared and equipped to do effective ministry and mission to our neighborhood. I would encourage you to join with me in dreaming about the kind of ministries that will be able to happen in our new, refurbished spaces!
2. When we rolled out the big news on October 27, we were unable to show you a rendering of the new wing addition. However, the architects have finished the rendering and we will unveil that on Sunday, December 1. In fact, one of the architects will join me for the Call to Worship to show a picture of what it will look like. It will be impressive! Be sure to be here then!
3. Pledges and gifts both will be welcome on December 8. For some, they will turn in their pledge card of what they plan to give. But others will be prepared to give on that date. We encourage you to go ahead and give what you can in cash on that date, along with the pledge to give later. This will help us in starting the project sooner rather than later.
4. Use this time as a chance to pray and stretch yourself spiritually in giving. An effort like this comes around once every 20 years. One of our great idols is our money. The best way to break this idol down is through cultivating generosity. Use this effort to challenge yourself on how much you can give toward this effort. God will bless you in the process.
I have been so encouraged hearing several of you discussing what you might pledge or how you might sacrificially give. God is working in all of this! God is going to use this moment, not only to transform our building, but also to transform our hearts! Keep praying!
