Faith Over Fear

As we continue through a time of great uncertainty, anxiety and unrest, I just want to share with you some of my favorite psalms of praise and assurance. I love the Psalms because they do not try to pretend life isn’t full of emotional stress and struggle. Rather, the authors of the Psalms face the hard truths of life head on, and yet they proclaim trust and reliance on God through those struggles. I hope and pray that these psalms will be helpful to you as you go through your valleys.

Psalm 54:1-2;4;7

Save me, O God, by your name; vindicate me by your might. Hear my prayer, O God; listen to the words of my mouth.

Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me.

You have delivered me from all my troubles, and my eyes have looked in triumph on my foes.

Psalms 13:3-6

Look on me and answer, Lord my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death, and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,” and my foes will rejoice when I fall. But I trust in your unfailing love;

my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing the Lord’s praise, for he has been good to me.

Psalms 62:1-2;7

For God alone my soul waits in silence; From him comes my salvation. He alone is my rock and salvation, My fortress; I shall never be shaken.

On God rests my deliverance and honor; My mighty rock, my refuge is God.

Psalms 40:1-3

I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord And put their trust in Him.

Psalms 118:6

The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?

I pray that these Psalms will be beneficial to you. This has been a difficult year, and it appears there may be more of the same coming. But we must not lose heart in the God who saves, and we must not lose faith in the God who heals. Our hope is in the eternal God. While this year may have caused our heads to look down in defeat, we must remind ourselves that our eyes should be fixed on Jesus, not on the things of this world. My encouragement to you is to remember that our God guides our steps, and He is leading us toward clear skies and green pastures. Through the valley that we walk, He walks with us. Through the dangers we face, He walks with us. And through the pain we experience, He walks with us.
