Southside Turns 125 Years Old

“Faith of our Fathers, living still,
In spite of dungeon, fire and sword;
O how our hearts beat high with joy
Whenever we hear that glorious Word!
Faith of our fathers, holy faith!
We will be true to thee till death.”

The Bible bulges with celebrations and milestones of God’s faithfulness. The church itself was born on a day of celebration and remembrance – Pentecost (Acts 2:1).

On September 24, we will give glory and honor to God for His faithfulness in shepherding the Southside congregation for 125 years.

Back in 1892 the downtown congregation (now known as First Christian on Throckmorton St.) courageously planted a “mission” congregation on the south side of downtown Fort Worth. From humble beginnings, the Gospel has been preached and demonstrated by flawed people (like us) for these 125 years.

Here are some things you will want to know for Sunday the 24th of September:

GIVING: For 125 years, the Southside Church has earnestly tried to be a light and a blessing to Fort Worth. You will be thrilled to know that on September 24 our entire Sunday contribution will be donated to ministries that bless our neighborhood:

Academy 4
Christian Works for Children
Fortress Youth Development Center
One Safe Place
South Central Alliance of Churches
Southside HOPE Ministry
Southside Pantry Ministry
Southside Tutoring Ministry

CHILDREN: Please bring them! No Children’s Worship that day. We want to worship together as one big Faith Family. After lunch, the children will participate in a scripture balloon launch, memorial tree planting and Time Capsule Event. A day they will remember!

TIMES: Our worship will start promptly at 9:30 am and will conclude at approximately 11:00 am. Lunch will be served immediately following worship. No Bible classes (except for the HOPE class). We anticipate the Event being concluded by 12:45 pm.

LUNCH: Complimentary lunch for all. The Lunch Box is catering. No waiting in buffet lines. The entire fellowship hall and adjoining classrooms will be set up for our meal. A variety of lunch choices will be available. No RSVP needed.

PRAISE: The acapella group from Arkansas called “First Day” will be singing in the Fellowship Hall during our meal to bless us with songs of faith.

SPECIAL GUESTS: Former Southside ministers Sean Fitzgerald, Kyle Kiser, Joe Flores, Bryan Barrett, Mike Brown, Hardeman Nichols (our oldest living former minister) will be with us and participating in worship.

PARKING: We are asking all our deacons, elders, and staff to park across the street on Hemphill at our new neighbor Christian Works for Children after letting your family off at door.
