After the death of King Solomon, his son Rehoboam sought counsel about a taxation policy for his country. The gray-haired counselors advised moderation and compassion, his younger advisors advised a steep and punitive tax increase.

Foolish Rehoboam took the counsel of his younger men. His harsh taxation of his people ultimately led to riot and a civil war (1 Kings 12).

Don’t disregard the wisdom of those who are seasoned travelers on the journey!

Virgil and Cozette Palmer are beloved partners at Southside. Anchored by truth, seasoned with grace, accomplished disciples with a long history of serving the Master. They were drawn to our church family by our stable, Christ-centered eldership and our dedication to authority of scripture.

Virgil was born in rural Muskogee, Oklahoma and is a Vietnam veteran. Cozette grew up on the family farm in Brownsville, Tennessee. They met at the Lincoln Avenue Church of Christ in Riverside, California. They had the challenge of blending two families with 11 children!

Virgil worked as a property manager for Home Savings of America most of his career. Cozette has been in Administration and worked as Secretary/Admin Assist in Marketing Sales for AT&T, 27 years. She took an early retirement and worked in Insurance and Investments for about 10 years. She also worked as Exec. Assist to the Public Defender for the County of Riverside before taking another early retirement and moving to Texas. Cozette’s third and final retirement was in 2014 from the City of Fort Worth where she worked in the call center for Code Compliance.

At Southside their ubiquitous influence has been felt everywhere. Virgil loves the pantry and clothing ministry. He is also an excellent teacher of adults. Virgil excels at greeting and ushering. Cozette has taught ladies’ classes and is currently much involved in our vast jail ministry.

The Palmers’ favorite Bible passages and hymns reflect their calm confidence in Heaven’s promises and provisions. Virgil loves “Victory in Jesus.” Cozette’s favorite Bible passage is Jeremiah 29:11-13 that comforts us with God’s promise to sustain us with a hopeful future.

How blessed we are that the Palmers are such an integral part of the Southside church.
